When you have got a lot going on, sometimes you can forget when you have to be in (or your lawyer is going for you) court next!
After you have been charged with a criminal offence in Queensland and had your first appearance at court, you might have been told to come back to court at another date.
You may have not written the date down, lost it or forgotten the date. Or, your lawyer has gone to court for you and you want to know faster than your lawyer can tell you.
So, you're asking yourself: When is my Next Court Date?
Short Answer: Read Below.
Long Answer: Read Below and call your lawyer if you have any questions or think something might be wrong.
As your charges go through the court system, there are likely to be court dates called “mentions”, mentions are when the parties (your lawyer and the prosecution) inform the court about what is happening or what should be ordered by the court.
Depending on your instructions and the view of the prosecution there may also be some legal argument to be decided by the Magistrate or the Judge.
If your lawyer goes to court and has your appearance excused (because they have gone to court for you), your lawyer will send you a letter, text or email letting you know the next date and if you need to come to court on that day.
The Queensland Courts also have a “Criminal Case Look Up” you can use to check up on your next date.
We cannot rely on the information as being accurate all the time, and your lawyers will only be aware of dates for charges we are engaged for.
For example, if we are representing you for charges in the Brisbane Magistrates Court and you are issued a Notice to Appear for the Sandgate Magistrates Court we will not be aware of the new date at Sandgate unless you tell us and we have been engaged to assist.
